San Francisco Day Trip

Day 51

Kendrick dropped us off at the Menlo Park CalTrain station around 10:15. We missed the train we planned to take by about 15 minutes, so we opted to take the 10:44 train, giving us enough time to grab some food before departing. Well, at 10:38 the train rolled in and we ran from the Seven-Eleven to catch it, making it just as the doors opened, then subsequently closed 5 seconds later and left us standing on the pad. Confused and pissed that nobody was allowed on the train, we awaited as the next train arrived a few minutes later.

CalTrain has very nice trains, clean and actually on time with a seemingly kind staff. Much better than the train in Indiana. We arrived in San Francisco at noon and got lunch at the Yuerba Buena Gardens before realizing the SFMOMA was closed, which did not impress Liv. We walked along the Embarcardero to Pier 39, got chocolate the Ghirardelli Square, and continued for a few more miles to the Palace of Fine Arts. The weather was clear but very windy and actually cold. Montreal was warmer 2 months ago.

From the Palace, we hammered back to the train station a few miles across the city, missing our train by 3 minutes. No big deal. Kendrick ended up picking us up in Sunnyvale without much inconvenience.

For dinner, we ate with Kendrick and Abby's friends Kat and Russel at a burger joint called Counter in San Jose. It was a build-your-own type of place and the dinner was excellent. Conveniently, we weren't charged for our brews or appetizers.
