Badlands N.P. to Black Hills National Forest, South Dakota

Day 24
Started out early hiking the Notch and Windows Trails above the campground.  The Notch Trail was the longer of the two, and got mildly sketchy going over and along the cliffs.  It was a quality hike, mainly easy, and we got a fine view of mule deer grazing 10' from us.

We drove out of the Badlands along dirt farm roads via Scenic, SD.  Stopping in Rapid City, we found some Internet at a very nice city library and booked a cabin in Custer for the evening.  Currently, we're at 4 days without a shower and things are starting to get a bit nasty.

The drive into the Black Hills was enjoyable and the little towns had a frontier feel to them.  At the cabin, I took off for a run along the Milkner Trail, passing 24 deer who barely cared to look up as I passed.  The run was enjoyable, but I started slightly feeling the 4,500' altitude.

Dinner was steaks cooked on the porch, actually tasting quite good, then a walk through Custer in search for a bar. The only bar we managed to find proved to be a bit too local and we proved to be a bit too foreign for our patronage.  Interesting town where the telephone poles had speakers playing Toby Keith throughout the evening.
