Canyonlands National Park to Bryce Canyon National Park, Utah

Day 36

I nagged Liv into waking up at 5:30 to watch the sunrise over Sunrise Arch.  It would appear the Park Service is aptly skilled at naming things around here.  The sunrise was beautiful as expected.  Since we were awake, we drove to the western limit of the park road and hiked to the Upheaval Dome lookout.  The short hike was made difficult by the triple digit temperatures but the view was well worth the sweat.  Geologists claim a meteor hit here a while back and, after eons of erosion and deposition, the white salt deposits are what remain.   Or something like that. They really don't know what the hell happened here, but the view's nice enough for me not to care.  Nature can have this mystery.

Leaving Canyonlands in the dust, the Wagon made its way to Panguitch, Utah, a small town at the door to Bryce Canyon National Park.  We stocked up on foodstuffs and wrote our letter  to Christina regarding the security deposit in the children's section of the library.  Definitely not a highlight of the trip.

Entering Bryce, we dodged some very close lightning strikes then had a pleasant ride through a gorgeous alpine forest to the Visitor's Center.  Nobody could give us a good answer if there were campsites available, so we hammered again, and found a spot remaining at Sunset Campground.

Liv cooked salmon over the fire then we relaxed in the more comfortable heat as the day finished up.
