Chicago Day Trip

Day 17

To our luck, a train station sat less than a mile from our tent and we hopped on the South Shore Line into Millennium Station in downtown Chicago. The train was moderately clean and got packed with all sorts during the 90 minute travel into the city.

show. His art was very intriguing and his steel work very impressive. From there we found Liv some new pants to ward off the cold wind blowing through the city and took a quick lunch break. Walking back towards Millennium Park, We headed down Michigan Ave. to the Museum of Contemporary Art where Jeff Koonz had awe visited The Bean, an awesome piece of public artwork and the Chicago Art Institute. Since the museum was undergoing a massive expansion they only had a limited collection on display, but it was free and Liv explained some rather humorous aspects of the pieces.

In the Park, we claimed a piece of grass and settled in awaiting the July 4th fireworks (on the 3rd). Freezing, the show started at 10:00 and was what we expected-loud and big. Trying to get back to the trains afterwards with 3 million of our best friends was a pain in the ass. Eventually we made it back to the campsite around 2AM after riding the train with some very drunk and obnoxious college girls.

Chicago was clean, manageable, big, and cold. But, right now it sits second to Montreal in the nicest cities we've visited. Way in front of New York.
