Indiana Dunes to Chicago to Shebbona Lake, Illinois

Day 19

The day started with more Spanish.  A few more weeks at this level of immersion and I could easily become fluent.  By 10:00 we had hit the r
oad and at 11:00 we hit the Lincoln
Park Zoo in Chicago.  The free admission was leveled by the over-priced parking but the zoo was quite nice (and expectantly zoo-ey)

At 4:00 PM we left the beautiful weather in Chicago and headed out on the road, a bit testy with each other
because the TomTom was being dumb and the paper map was being smart.  Getting slightly lost (except we didn't have an actual destination, so we weren't really lost), we pulled off in New Lenox, IL to give ourselves a slight sense of direction.  Taking Chris's word that the Badlands were worth the visit, we jumped on U.S. Route 30 and aimed
for South Dakota.  Sorry Kansas, you're getting skipped this round

Along the road, signs for "A Cavalcade of Homes" preempted the sight of hundreds of identical homes laid out in a grid work without any hope for trees.  These cavalcades grew up from sold-out farmlands and died just as quickly.   They are truly disgusting.

Eventually the homes gave way to farmland for good and we found Shebbona Lake State Recreation Area in Shebbona, Illinois.  The park's nice, but not worth the $35.00/night.   Dinner was Velveta and sweet potatoes and the day was capped off with a walk to Shebbona Lake.  However, around 2AM I awoke
to some campers having a yelling match where the husband was remarkably wrong and would never accept it.
