Olmstead C.G. to Horse Thief Lake C.G., The Black Hills, SD

Day 26
At 10:30 we took the Lantern Tour through Jewel Cave.  It's the second longest cave in the planet (180+ miles) and is totally amazing.  We were stuck with a scout troop of rich Connecticut kids and the troop leaders continuously gave us odd looks.  We carried oil lamps for our light and the guide was very knowledgeable.   The tour was top notch, Liv's gotten a spelunking bug, and we saw some pretty spectacular formations.
After a tailgate wagon lunch we climbed into the Formation Room at no charge and had more of a touristic-y explanation of the cave.  The geology was still fascinating but the guide was sub par, and spoke like a five year old girl.
Camp was made at Horse Thief Lake, a beautiful piece of the world and started hiking the Horse Thief Trail around 3:00.  We had a nice snack on the bank of a quick little stream
and then hiked back to the tent.  Dinner was tuna melts over the fire as we listened to possibly the most ignorant, inbred, degenerate family from Nebraska discuss some rather advanced topics like "...I'll punch your dang face in" and "Ma, why ain't dems tires bigger on Todd's truck?"

After dark we drove past Rushmore lit up with spotlights.  Crazy Horse's night time appearance was again superior and Rushmore was unfortunately flat lit.
